The Janata high school and St Francis schools, both private trust run schools at Vishrantwadi, Pune cater to children in over 8 slums in the nearby locations. We began our DC in 2009 and have been going strong since. We have a dedicated centre with special teachers focused on improving dropout rates and academic performance in addition to holistic development of the child. The centre runs out of school hours and is well-equipped with computers and a library. We also commenced a special project for pre-primary children with the aid of specially trained staff to maximize the learning potential that children are proved to have at this early age. We also organize workshops for teachers from the school and other special interest classes for the students, with emphasis on English speaking for Marathi medium students.
