CEDE stands for Child Education, Development and Empowerment
CEDE uses a three-pronged approach where it aims at -
Holistic development of children by coaching them on a variety of aspects as well as developing their overall personality, enhancing their knowledge and work life skills, thereby empowering them to become more confident and responsible individuals.
Enabling teachers / change managers with the right tools and modern teaching techniques through a variety of 'Teachers Training' workshops.
Regular 'Empowerment Workshops' for parents, school authorities and teachers as well as change managers and volunteers who are important enablers in a child’s development process.
Our country has progressed economically and major steps have been taken to enhance education standards but somewhere along the way, we seem to have lost sight of our traditional values. The time has come when we must start moulding the character of students to become good citizens and retain our ethnicity.
With a huge expansion of the education system, the standard as measured by the percentage of marks obtained in examinations has been rising to unprecedented levels. But, unfortunately there is a marked decline in the character, moral values and general behavior of students coming out of schools and colleges.
In most educational institutions, there is a total lack of the concept of human development and nation building in the education process. The emphasis instead, is on achieving maximum percentage in academic results, money-making and materialism. This has resulted in the gradual erosion of values among people and the body politic. This trend needs to be reversed if India has to survive as a nation and acquire its due place in the world. The only way to arrest this decline is in providing value-orientation in our educational system.
Understanding the above challenge at hand, the need is to take concrete action of framing curricula and development and adaptation of innovative methods to inculcate values and ethics in children.
Our humble attempt is to bridge this gap using a three pronged approach by introducing CEDE (Child Education, Development and Empowerment), a holistic developmental program to enhance a child’s personality, knowledge and skills, thereby making him a confident and responsible individual; as well as Empowerment Workshops for teachers, parents, change managers and volunteers.
CEDE intervention aims at experiential learning using various interactive media such as fun learning activities, role-plays, and mind-map and study techniques. The intervention will be implemented by teachers (school), change managers (on a regular and honorarium basis) and volunteers (weekend workshops).
Our change managers and volunteers are essential external channels who help mould the personality of these children by exposing them to a variety of fun learning practices and by teaching them to think out of the box. Our constant endeavor is to empower children with adequate knowledge and skills so that they enter the real world with confidence.
Provide a comprehensive, holistic program for self-development of children as a separate module in schools.
Provide training to teachers and change managers to educate them about innovative and effective methods of classroom instruction that enhance learning and comprehension using new techniques and teaching aids.
Empower various enablers in the developmental process by conducting relevant workshops for them at regular intervals.
Create a platform for masses to connect with the lesser privileged and share their time, knowledge as well as skills. Also, ensure that younger children gain from the vast knowledge bank of the older generation by bridging the generation gap through more interaction between them.
A holistic program for children which aims at developing their overall personality and making them more confident as well as responsible individuals.
Approach and methodology of implementation
Platform that allows the involvement of masses to connect with the lesser privileged and share their time, knowledge as well as skills via volunteering, donations (individual / group / organization), sponsorship of one or more children’s annual fees for CEDE program
Focuses on special empowerment workshops for: Students, Teachers, Change agents, Parents and Volunteers
Rich, easy-to-understand and fun learning techniques adopted in modules
Measuring effectiveness and regular evaluation of students as well as the overall program at regular intervals
CEDE is planned as a 55 hrs program through the academic year, for lesser privileged children to be integrated with the school curriculum aided by the school authorities. An approximate of 4 hrs / week is spent on coaching the children through fun-learning media.
Regular Teacher’s Training programs are conducted through the academic year for teachers, change managers as well as interested volunteers.
Quarterly empowerment workshops are held for Parents and other enablers who are integral in the child’s development process.
'Change Managers' are specially appointed volunteers who coach the children during the week (Mon-Sat) on CEDE program. They also are responsible for adding value to CEDE program by coordinating with the school as well as PF core team and also by conducting regular assessments, giving feedback for improvement of program.
Volunteer driven workshops are held on Saturdays, are meant for volunteers to not only spend quality time with the students but also impart knowledge through fun experiential activities.
Volunteers can select the preferred zonal schools and register for the preferred date/ activity as per CEDE calendar published on the PF website.
CEDE program will be implemented in 21 schools across 5 zonal areas in Pune. Currently a mix of PMC and non PMC schools are empanelled for the year 2013-14 during which grade 2 and 3 students will be trained. Post 2014 the program will be expanded to other parts of the city and higher levels.
Corporate tie-up and funding: Corporate sponsors could choose to fund an entire year’s program for a select school / set of students, as proposed in our budget plan or could choose to provide sustained assistance by adopting our plan as part of their CSR initiative.
